The badge is not bought. It is granted by a review decision at Meta once specific conditions are met, and no technical provider — us included — can grant it or guarantee it. That one sentence sums up most of what is sold in this market under the name “the green tick”.
Three things everybody confuses
Most of the confusion ends the moment these three are separated. Each has a different procedure, a different outcome, and a different party deciding it.
| What it is | What it actually gives you | Who decides |
|---|---|---|
| Business verification | Proves to Meta that the entity is real, with official documents such as the commercial registration. It opens the route to a higher messaging limit, and it is a prerequisite for the badge. | A document review — a clear procedure you complete yourself |
| Display-name approval | Makes your business name appear to the customer instead of the number. It is subject to naming guidelines Meta publishes, and is also a prerequisite for the badge. | A review of the name against the guidelines |
| The official business account badge | A mark beside the name, and your number becomes discoverable in WhatsApp’s own search results. | A review decision by Meta — neither bought nor guaranteed |
The order between them is not optional: verification and name approval are conditions before a badge request is even accepted. Anyone applying for the badge before completing both does not get a quick “no” — they burn a 30-day wait before they can try again.
Why nobody can sell you the badge
Submitting the badge request is a simple procedure: a button inside WhatsApp Manager, or one field through Meta’s API. There is no special channel, no intercession, and no “verification package”. What happens after you press it is a review inside Meta, of which the provider sees nothing but the result.
This is also good reason to doubt any precise figure you hear about an “acceptance rate” or a “review time”. Meta does not publish those numbers, so everything circulating is an estimate with no official source.
The conditions Meta actually publishes
This is the documented list. Meeting it does not mean you will get the badge, but it means you are eligible to apply — and any gap in it means the request will not be considered at all:
- Compliance with WhatsApp’s business messaging policy.
- At least 30 days since the number was registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform.
- A completed Business verification for the business portfolio that owns the number.
- Two-step verification turned on for the business number.
- An approved display name for the number.
And there is one explicit exception that saves a lot of people their time: Meta does not grant official account status to WhatsApp Business appnumbers, nor to test accounts, nor to employees’ numbers. If your number runs on the app today, the first step is not the request but connecting the number to the platform — and that can be done without deleting the account or losing your conversations.
The real order, step by step
The order below is not an organisational suggestion; it is the sequence Meta’s own conditions impose. The thirty-day clock starts at the first step, so the earlier you start verification the sooner both tracks finish together.
From connection to badge
sequence- 1Connect the number to the WhatsApp Business PlatformThis is where the thirty-day clock starts. If the number runs on the WhatsApp Business app, connect it through Coexistence so you do not lose your conversations.
- 2Complete business verification on MetaWith the entity’s official documents. This step alone raises the messaging limit to 2,000 conversations a day, so it is worth doing even if you never apply for the badge.
- 3Turn on two-step verification for the numberAn explicit eligibility condition, and it takes minutes. The most common reason we see for an ineligible request is forgetting this exact step.
- 4Submit a display name that matches the entity, and get it approvedThe name your customers know, matching what is in your documents. You can change it 10 times in 30 days, so do not burn the attempts trying out wordings.
- 5Build a clean record and keep the quality rating highMessages the recipient expects, and approved templates that are neither reported nor blocked. The quality rating shows in WhatsApp Manager and falls quickly if you send to lists that never opted in.
- 6Submit the official account request once the conditions are metFrom WhatsApp Manager: the number → Profile → Official business account → Submit request. Or through Meta’s API by reading the request-status field.
- 7If the request is refused, wait 30 daysA refusal stops nothing in your account: you carry on sending, and your business profile stays editable. Use the wait to improve what can be improved rather than resubmitting straight away.
The fourth step is the one most people get wrong. The display name goes through a review, and once approved you have 14 days to re-register the number for the name to actually apply — and if the window closes you go back to review from the start. And once you have the badge, changing the name is only possible through direct support, not on your own.
Where to check the display name’s state
referenceWhat the badge changes — and what it does not
This is where a lot of people are disappointed, and it is better to be disappointed before paying than after. The badge changes two things: how your name looks to the customer, and whether your number can appear in WhatsApp’s search. Everything else stays exactly as it was.
Business verification versus the badge
comparison| Business verification | The official account badge | |
|---|---|---|
| Raises the daily messaging limitVerification is the published route to a limit of 2,000 | Yes | No |
| Lowers Meta’s per-message feeThe fee is set by the template category and the recipient’s country alone | No | No |
| Speeds up template approval or raises the acceptance rateA template is reviewed on its content and category, not on the account’s status | No | No |
| Makes your number appear in WhatsApp’s search resultsAn unbadged number only appears to people who have it saved in their contacts | No | Yes |
| A prerequisite for the otherA badge request cannot be submitted before verification is complete | Yes | No |
| You can complete it yourself, through a clear procedureThe badge is a review decision, not a set of steps to satisfy | Yes | No |
And so the cost row does not stay a mere claim: Meta’s fee per message to a Saudi number is 0.19 SAR for a marketing message, 0.04 SAR for a utility message and 0.04 SAR for a verification message, at Meta’s rates effective since April 1, 2026. The badge enters that equation in no way at all — neither as a discount nor as a surcharge. You can try the figures at your real volume in the cost calculator.
Meta Verified is something else — do not confuse them
Meta sells a paid subscription called Meta Verified that grants a verification badge and identity-protection features across its platforms. That is a product in its own right, whose marketing, pricing and geographic coverage change from market to market and from period to period — and the only reference for its state in Saudi Arabia today is Meta’s own page.
What we can state without reservation is the dividing line: the official business account badge on the WhatsApp Business Platform is not bought with a subscription, is not granted to WhatsApp Business app numbers, and its route is the one described above. So if you see an offer that blurs the two — “subscribe and you will get your number verified on WhatsApp Business” — ask exactly which badge on which product, before any payment.
The realistic route for a Saudi business
If you are a Saudi business with a commercial registration, e-invoicing and a customer-facing number people know, your priorities are different from what the market says. The badge is the last thing to think about, not the first.
- Settle the name before anything else. The name on the commercial registration, the name on your website, the name your customers know, and the display name you propose — the more they match, the more easily the name review passes, and the less chance your business is read as a different entity.
- Start verification on day one. It is the only certain gain in this whole journey: it raises your daily limit, it counts towards the badge’s conditions, and it does not depend on anybody’s judgement call.
- Protect the quality rating the way you protect your licence. Send to people who agreed to hear from you, and respect the Personal Data Protection Law’s requirements when you collect numbers and consents. Reports and blocks from recipients are what pull the rating down, and it is visible to Meta at every review.
- Do not hang your business model on the badge. A complete business profile — logo, website, description and address — builds more trust than a small mark does, and it works from day one without waiting for anybody’s review.
- Apply once, after everything is in place. Because the price of a hasty request is 30 days of waiting, not just a refusal message.
Is the tick green or blue?
Meta’s current documentation describes the official business account badge as a blue tick beside the business name. The name “green tick” stuck from the badge’s older look, and plenty of people still search for it — but what you see on official accounts today is the blue badge. None of this changes how you get it.
Can a provider get me the badge for a fee?
No. The decision comes from a review team inside Meta after the request is submitted, and no provider — including us — has any influence on the outcome. What a provider can do is put the prerequisites in place: connect the number officially, complete business verification, turn on two-step verification, and submit a display name that matches the entity. Anyone promising you the badge itself for a sum is selling you something they do not control.
Did the badge raise the daily message limit or lower the cost?
Neither. The messaging limit rises through specific routes Meta publishes — business verification first — and then climbs automatically according to message quality and how much of your current limit you use. Meta’s per-message fees are worked out from the template category and the recipient’s country alone. The badge is a factor in neither equation.
My number runs on the WhatsApp Business app — how do I get the badge?
You cannot, as long as the number is on the app. Meta’s documentation states explicitly that official business account status is not granted to WhatsApp Business app numbers. The badge belongs to the WhatsApp Business Platform (the official API connection). To apply you have to connect the number to the platform first, and you can do that without losing your conversations, through Coexistence.
How long does it take, and what if the request is refused?
Before a request is even accepted, the number must have been registered on the platform for at least 30 days, with verification complete and the display name approved. Meta publishes no fixed review time, so any number somebody gives you is an estimate, not a promise. If the request is refused you have to wait 30 days before submitting a new one — and that wait alone is reason enough not to apply before every condition is in place.
What is the difference between the badge and display-name approval?
The display name is what the customer sees instead of the number in the conversation, and you get it by having the name approved by Meta under its naming guidelines — a clear procedure you can complete yourself. The badge is something else entirely: a mark beside the name that makes your number discoverable in WhatsApp’s search, granted by a review decision. Name approval is a prerequisite for the badge, but it does not mean you will get it.
